Big Red Weekend Recap:
The JV and Varsity boys basketball teams traveled to St. Paul on Friday night for another big late season conference matchup. The JV team lost to the Flyers before the varsity found themselves in another barn burner that would go down to the final buzzer. St. Paul would catch fire early as they jumped out to a quick lead during the 1st quarter but the Big Red would eventually settle in and chipped away at that lead and would take a lead during the 2nd quarter before leading 29-28 at the half. The 3rd quarter was back and forth as neither team would be able to gain a large lead and the Big Red would trail 49-45 going into the 4th quarter and would play behind for the majority of the quarter before tying the game late. The game was tied at 60 with under a minute to play and St. Paul would hold for the final shot of the game and ended up at the foul line with 1.6 seconds to go as they took the lead and the win by a 62-60 final score. The loss drops the Big Red to 13-7 overall and 9-4 in conference play and they will be back in action on Tuesday hosting Crestline.
The Big Red wrestling team was in action on Saturday as they traveled to the Margaretta Stockmaster Invite. The Big Red competed with only 7 healthy wrestlers as they are dealing with several injuries and competed hard on the day with 4 placers. Isaiah Miller led the way with a 2nd place finish while Thomas Winegardner and Ben Trimmer both took 3rd and Levi Foley took 5th. They will be back in action on Saturday this weekend at the Firelands Conference championship meet at Crestview.
The cheer squad was also in action over the weekend as they competed in a competition at Ashland High School on Sunday and came away with a 5th place finish. They will now set their sites on the state competition that they have qualified for that will be held on Friday this week in Columbus.
