Big Red Recap:

It was a busy Thursday night of basketball action between the Big Red and Mapleton Mounties as several of our teams were in action against each other. The MS boys teams made the trip to Mapleton and came away with a split with the Mounties. The 7th grade lost a close game by a 37-35 final score while the 8th grade earned their first win of the season by a score of 54-48. Both teams will be back in action tomorrow morning hosting St. Paul.

The Freshman boys were at home against the Mounties and came away with a 43-39 win for their first victory of the season as well. They will be right back in action again tonight at South Central as they will play at 5pm before the JV and Varsity games.

The JV and Varsity girls were also in action on the road at Mapleton and took two tough losses to the Mounties. The JV battled and lost by a final score of 23-14 before the Varsity struggled to keep up with hot-shooting Mounties and fell 56-14. Varsity drops to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play and will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at Monroeville.

Big Red Recap:

It was a busy Tuesday night of basketball action as several of our Big Red teams were in action. The MS girls were in action at home hosting Mapleton in one combined game and lost a tough game to the Mounties. They will be back in action on Saturday morning at St. Paul.

The JV and Varsity girls were also in action at home hosting Hillsdale in non-conference action and both lost to the Falcons. The varsity came out ready to play and jumped out to an early lead and would hold a 9-8 advantage at the end of the 1st quarter. The Falcon defense would stifle the Lady Big Red during the 2nd quarter holding them to only one point in the quarter as the Big Red would trail 18-10 at the half. The 2nd half was more of the same as the Lady Big Red tried to play catch up but could not sustain any consistent offense en route to the 43-25 loss to the Falcons. The Lady Big Red drop to 0-4 on the season and will travel to Mapleton on Thursday night.

The JV and Varsity boys were also in action as they took to the road to open up conference play at Monroeville and after a rough JV loss the Eagles and Big Red treated the fans to an exciting conference opening game. Monroeville, playing their first game of the season came out firing on all cylinders as they raced out to a 24-11 lead after the 1st quarter. The Big Red would then settle in and got their offense going during the 2nd quarter and cut that lead to 42-37 at the half. The 3rd quarter was back and forth with the Eagles continuing to hang onto the lead holding a 59-53 advantage going into the 4th quarter. Monroeville would continue to lead until late in the quarter when the Big Red caught fire and completed the comeback taking the lead late in the game and holding on for an exciting 75-72 come from behind win. The win improves them to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play. They will be back in action on Friday at South Central before hosting Mansfield Christian on Saturday to complete a double weekend.
