Forever a BIG RED!

Plymouth Head Wrestling Coach Jeremiah Balkin has announced his retirement from coaching. Balkin, who was first hired for the 2000-2001 season just recently completed his 26th season at the helm of the Big Red wrestling program. He ends his career with a 122-124 record dual matches in those 26 years and finishes as the longest tenured and winningest coach in the history of the program. The Big Red won 21 individual tournament championships during his 26 seasons including a Firelands Conference Championship in 2021. Coach Balkin coached 37 individual conference champions, and 20 district placers over his 26 seasons.
In a joint statement, Athletic Director Josh Calame and Principal Joe Morabito conveyed: “We congratulate Coach Balkin on his retirement from coaching and are forever grateful for the hard work, time, and dedication that he has poured into the Big Red wrestling program over the past 26 years. He served as a tremendous leader for the young men in our wrestling program and the impact he has had on our student-athletes will last for years to come. We wish him the best moving forward.”

Big Red Weekend Recap:
It is the final recap of the winter sports season as the season officially came to an end over the weekend at the District wrestling tournament. Thomas Winegardner, Ben Trimmer, and Isaiah Miller all competed at the district meet representing the Big Red. On Friday, Thomas and Isaiah both lost tough 1st round matches to fall into the consolation bracket. Thomas then lost a 2nd tough match to see his season come to an end while Isaiah picked up a win to advance to Saturday. Ben won his first round match before losing his quarterfinal match and falling into the consolation bracket. On Saturday, Isaiah lost his next match to see his season come to an end. Ben kept his season alive by winning his next two matches and advancing to the consolation semi-final where he would lose coming up one win short of making it to state. He would go onto placing 6th in his weight class and finishes his stellar career as a district placer. Congratulations to all of our Big Red wrestlers and coaches on a great season!
