Big Red Recap:

The MS Volleyball teams returned to action on Wednesday night hosting Western Reserve in conference action. It was a tough night for the Lady Big Red as both teams fell in 2 straight sets to the Roughriders. Both teams will be back in action on Monday when they travel to South Central.

The golf team was also in action as they hosted their final regular season conference dual match of the season with Western Reserve. It was another tough night on the links for the Big Red as they shot a team score of 192 and lost by two strokes. Parker Miller led the way for the Big Red with a 46 while Gus Sutter followed with a 47. Carson Lewis added a 49 and Trevor Putt added a 52 to round out the scoring for the Big Red. They are back in action today at the firelands conference tournament at Millstone Hills in New London.

Elementary News! A couple of second grade students earned the reward of helping Mr. Tucker. They were extremely helpful and took great pride in a job well done today. Way to go! 🤩

Big Red Recap:

The Lady Big Red volleyball teams traveled to Crestview on Tuesday night and took on the Cougars in a tripleheader. The freshman and JV teams both forced a 3rd set in each game before falling in 3 sets before the varsity got swept and fell to the Cougars in 3 straight sets. All 3 teams will be back in action on Thursday at Western Reserve.

The golf team was also back in action as they hosted New London in a conference dual match at Woody Ridge. It wasn't the Big Red's best day on the course as they lost by a team score of 186-193. Damian Schwaderer led the way with a 46 and was followed by Carson Lewis's 47 and Parker Miller's 48. Trevor Putt rounded out the scoring with a 52. They will be right back in action tonight in their final regular season dual match at home against Western Reserve.

The MS Volleyball teams got a new week started on Monday night by hosting Crestview in conference play. The Big Red came away with a split with the Cougars as the 7th grade earned a hard fought 3 set win after losing the 1st set and coming back to win the 2nd and 3rd. The 8th grade then lost in 2 straight sets. Both teams will be back in action on Wednesday hosting Western Reserve.

COOPERATIVE YOUTH DAY TO COLUMBUS – OCTOBER 22

Firelands Electric will be selecting up to 25 high school students to participate in its fourth annual Cooperative Youth Day to our state’s capital. This FREE, all-day chartered bus trip to the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus will take place on Thursday, October 22. Participants will explore Ohio's government, history, and politics with opportunities to tour the Statehouse, meet with legislators, and much more.

Students DO NOT need to be co-op members to apply – they simply need to be in grades 9-12. Our short online application is due September 23 and can be accessed by visiting www.firelandsec.com/cooperative-youth-day.

International Dot Day is celebrated on September 15 to encourage creativity, courage, and collaboration, inspired by Peter H. Reynolds' book "The Dot".

Our Elementary students created pieces of art starting with a simple dot. They did an AMAZING job.

Athletic News! Big Red Weekend Recap: The Big Red football and cross country teams were both in action on Saturday night as the football team traveled to take on Fremont St. Joes and the cross country teams competed in the annual Stars, Stripes, and Lights Invite at Seneca East. It was a rough night for the Big Red in Fremont as they played shorthanded and down 2-3 starters for most of the night. St. Joes scored the first two TD's on the night to take a 14-0 lead early in the game before the Big Red got on the board with a Weston Kamann to Lincoln Distl TD pass and run. The Big Red added the 2 point conversion to make it 14-8. St. Joes would score again on their next drive before Distl converted another long run into a TD and the Big Red would add another conversion to make the score 20-16. It was all St. Joes from that point on as the Big Red defense could not slow down the Crimson Streaks rushing attack en route to the 66-16 final score. The Big Red drop to 1-3 overall on the season and 1-2 in Northern 8 conference play and will be back on the road this week at Sebring Mckinley. The Big Red cross country teams competed in one of the signature cross country events in this area in the Seneca East Stars, Stripes, and Lights event under the lights on Saturday night. The HS boys finished in 18th place as a team and were led by Carter Jester's 70th place finish. Weston Smith took 143rd, Levi Foley 156th, Trevor Furr 193rd, Luke Kelbley 210th, and Gabe Tackett 222nd to complete the scoring for the boys. For the HS girls, Anna Caughenbaugh led the way finishing in 122nd place while Audrey Smith took 168th and Grace Edwards took 221st. Grant Helms (32nd) and Noah Fazzini (76th) competed for the MS boys. The teams will be back in action this Saturday at the Lakota Myron Cline Invite. Thank you Kennedy Greenawalt for the pictures! 🤩
