Big Red Recap:
The varsity baseball and softball teams both were in action on Wednesday night as they traveled to South Central. The softball team playing in their 1st game against the Trojans found themselves in a low scoring pitcher's dual and suffered a tough loss by a score of 2-1. The loss drops them to 2-20 overall and 0-11 in conference play. They will be back in action on Friday at Lucas as they open up postseason action against the Cubs in the Sectional finals.
The Big Red baseball team took on the Trojans for the 2nd night in a row in a matchup that would decide who finishes in 2nd place in the conference behind St. Paul. The Big Red continued their late season strong play and completed the two game sweep of the Trojans with a 6-1 win. A day after Lincoln Distl went the distance on the mound for the Big Red this time it was Evan King's turn as he turned in another complete game performance en route to earning the win on the mound. Lex Grose was the man of the hour at the plate as he removed all doubt with a grand slam to help lead the Big Red to another big victory and secured a 2nd place conference finish with a 10-4 final conference record. They have now won 6 games in a row and stand at 13-8 overall and will wrap up another week on Friday night at Mansfield Christian.
The HS Track and Field teams traveled to New London for day 1 of the firelands conference championship meet and saw a few athletes score points in final events and several others advance in the prelims to the finals on Friday. Scoring final points for the boys were; Jeric Tackett with a 6th place finish in the long jump and Casey Bailey with a 7th place finish in the shot put. Morgan Follett led the way for the girls with a 2nd place finish in the 3200 m run while Mya Stine took 8th place in the discus. Both 4x800 relay teams scored with the girls taking 5th and the boys taking 8th.
In running event prelims Izaya Reynolds continued his stronghold on the 200 and 400 m dashes with the top qualifying times in both events headed into Friday's finals. Weston Smith will join Izaya in the finals of the 400 after taking 5th in the prelims. Isaiah Miller took 2nd and 3rd in the prelims of the 110 and 300 m hurdles and will take his shot at both in the finals on Friday. For the girls, Sienna Kennison qualified in the 400 m dash with a 6th place finish while Anna Caughenbaugh took 7th in the 300 m hurdles.
