Big Red Weekend Recap:
The Big Red football team traveled to Western Reserve on Friday night to start firelands conference play against the Roughriders. The first half was a defensive back and forth battle as both defenses traded early stops and saw a 0-0 score at the end of the 1st quarter. Western would finally get on the board with a short TD run early in the 2nd quarter but the strong defense continued before the Roughriders would score on a long TD pass right before the half to take a 13-0 lead over the Big Red into the half. The Big Red continued to battle in the 2nd half but could not find any momentum offensively against the strong Roughriders defense. Western would add a couple late TD's to eventually pull away to the 35-0 win over the Big Red. The Big Red drop to 1-3 on the season and 0-1 in conference play and will be back at home this week hosting St. Paul on Friday night.
The MS Volleyball teams were in action on Saturday morning as they traveled to Willard for a non-conference matchup with the Flashes. They came away with a split as the 7th grade lost and the 8th grade won. They will be right back in action tonight when they host Western Reserve.
The Cross Country teams were also in action on Saturday morning at the annual Galion Festival. Morgan Follett once again led the way with a 25th place finish for the girls in a time of 21:19. Audrey Smith (125th), Aly Lewis (131st), Anna Caughenbaugh (160th), and Kristi Yeager (189th) all rounded out the scoring for the girls who took 19th as a team. Colton Sundstrom led the boys with a 112th place finish in a time of 19:54 while Zach Miller took 178th place. Luke Kelbley took 252nd while Jack Kelbley finished in 260th. Weston Smith led the MS runners with a 12th place finish in the MS boys race and was followed by Carter Jester in 39th and Gabe Tackett in 184th. Ari Miller represented the MS girls and took 130th. They will all be back in action on Saturday this weekend at Black River's JB Firestone Invite.
