PHS News!
Yesterday, in Mr. Silcox's History Through Films class the students replicated a scene from the movie 1917. In the movie 1917 one of the main characters, Lance Corporal Schofield, has to deliver a message to stop an attack. While delivering this message he has to run through the battlefield. In the movie the Lance Corporal ran 300+ meters. During WW1 the average weight of military equipment was 40 to 80 pounds. The students walked or jogged a lap around the track (400 meters) with a 25 pound weight or a 45 pound barbell.

Big Red Weekend Recap:
It was homecoming weekend for the Big Red and it was a good and busy one! It all started on Friday night when the football team hosted New London on homecoming night. The Big Red used a fast start and would cruise to a much needed conference win over the Wildcats. They would only need to throw one pass play the entire night but that one was a good that one that got things rolling when Lincoln Distl connected with Eli Keefe for a 43 yard TD pass and run that made the score 7-0. Ethan Keefe would then extend the lead to 14-0 when he took one to the house from 68 yards out as the Big Red took control. New London would score on a trick play on a 4th down conversion to make the score 14-6 before the Big Red would add two more rushing TD's at the end of the half, one by Ethan Keefe and one be Owen Wright to make the score 26-6 at the half. Isaiah Miller would then get in on the fun in the 3rd quarter with a 36 yard TD run to make it 33-6 before Noah Montgomery added one to make it 40-6 and the running clock was on during the 4th quarter. New London would add a late TD to make the final score 40-12 as the Big Red improve to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in conference play. They will be home for the final time this season on Friday night when they host Monroeville on senior night.
Saturday was a day full of conference meets and tournaments as the cross country team hosted the conference championship meet while the MS volleyball teams competed in their respective tournaments. Morgan Follett highlighted the cross country meet for the Big Red as she took 2nd place in the HS girls race with a time of 20:16 and earned 1st team all conference! Audrey Smith took 23rd for the girls while Aly Lewis (32), Kristi Yeager (33rd), and Anna Caughenbaugh (42nd) followed. Matthew Gillum stepped in to help the boys team out and had an outstanding performance leading the way with a 16th place finish in a time of 18:54 and earned honorable mention all conference honors. Colton Sundstrom followed in 26th place while Dallas Thompson (29th), Zach Miller (34th), Luke Kelbley (51st), and Jack Kelbley (54th) rounded it out for the boys. Both the boys and girls teams took 6th place overall. For the MS, Weston Smith led the way with a 3rd place finish while Carter Jester took 9th and Gabe Tackett took 30th. Ari Miller represented the girls in 21st place. The MS teams have completed their seasons while the HS teams will prepare for the district meet on Saturday in Galion.
The MS Volleyball teams ended their seasons by competing in their respective conference tournaments. The 8th grade dropped a tough game in the 1st round to Western Reserve in 3 sets while the 7th grade advanced to the semi-finals by beating Western Reserve in the 1st round and then fell to 2nd seeded St. Paul in the semi-finals. Congratulations to both teams on great seasons!
